One Week to Publication of Under a Poacher's Moon

If you want to help get the word out, here are a few ways. There's also a price promotion on the Ebook until Feb. 8.

Under a Poacher’s Moon will be published one week from today! Thanks to everyone who pre-ordered the book and has spread the word to friends, and included the book in your book clubs, etc. Your help is much appreciated!

Now’s the time when Amazon.com starts to track sales of the book for the purpose of rankings. For those who don’t know, Amazon controls an enormous percentage of book sales, so for better or worse its algorithm makes a huge difference in a book’s overall performance. If you want to help push my book higher up the rankings, please:

(1) Order the book on Amazon (link here), and

(2) Be sure to review the book on Amazon — give it the “stars” you think it deserves, and if you’re feeling inspired write something positive.

The number of reviews is the most important factor. A written review does not have to be super elaborate. Just a sentence or two is fine. Here’s an example of a review posted on Goodreads from someone I’ve never met who just read my book:

loved this book! I have followed WildEarth Live for years. That made this book very interesting to me. . . . I will be picking up the next book. I can't wait for it to be finished. The writer did his homework. I could see the landscape where everything took place.

Another thing you can do is share the book on your social media, or send it to friends who might be interested. We already have a healthy number of pre-orders, and the higher that number goes the more the Amazon algorithm will push the book (go figure).

We are also very lucky to be getting a New Releases promotion on BookBub, a huge online book promotion service. BookBub has a massive audience, and these spots are very hard to get, so it’s going to really help the book launch! (Thanks to folks at BQB Publishing for their work in securing this spot). Due to the BookBub price promo, from now until Feb. 8 the Ebook version of the book will be on sale for $5.99.

To give you an update on other writing I’ve got in the works: I’ve been working away for some time on a sequel to Under a Poacher’s Moon tentatively titled Beneath an Ivory Moon. I hope to carry on the story and expand on themes of the first book, especially taking into account recent global developments that can be integrated into an exciting tale (the world has changed a lot in the last two years, in case you haven’t noticed). I also enjoyed writing the essays on these Substack emails that went out to you, and I received positive feedback on them from a number of people, so I’m working hard on putting together 2-3 similar essays on current events for publication on platforms with larger audiences. We’ll see how it goes.

Also at some point we’re going to have a party to celebrate the book launch, so those of you who live near me stay tuned.
